Wakehurst FC Development Programs

For players’ wanting to reach their full football potential Wakehurst FC (WFC) will offer a range of new development programs this year.

WFC has engaged the services of Football Development Australia Pty. Ltd. (FDA) to assist in the delivery of our Junior Development Program and our coach education programs.

The primary purpose of these programs is to develop the technical skills of WFC players’ in a safe, inclusive and enjoyable environment.

The key elements that WFC, in conjunction with FDA, will bring to the programs are a:

    • Commitment to the long-term development of players’ and teams;
    • Consistency of coaching and session structures across age groups; and
    • Proven track record in developing successful junior and youth players’ and teams

All training programs will align completely with Football Federation Australia’s National Football Curriculum.

These programs are only available to players’ registered with WFC for the 2021 season.

FDA currently only has enough coaches’ to support the programs that we have decided to offer this season.

If the programs are successful this year then we expect to be able to offer more programs and coach development sessions next season including programs on other days of the week.

The free programs that we are offering this season are being funded from the rebate we received from the Manly Warringah Football Association for the 2020 season fees.

  1. Under 8 – U13 Junior Development Program

Players’ who demonstrate an ability to play in the top teams of each age group will be offered a place in the Junior Development Program.

The Junior Development Program will run on Monday afternoon and evenings at Lionel Watts.

WFC and FDA coaches’ will assess players’ during grading sessions to determine which players’ will be offered places in the development programs.

We expect that there will be approximately twenty players’ in the Junior Development Program for each age group.

These programs are additional to a player’s normal weekly team training session.

  1. Team Training/Coach Development

U8-U13 Teams

The top team in each U8 to U13 age group will have an FDA coach who will run the weekly training session and run the team on match day.

We would like each of these teams to have an Assistant Coach to work with the FDA coach.  Each team will need a parent Team Manager to perform the usual team management and team communication tasks.

As we are running this program on a trial basis this season there will be no cost to the team to have an FDA coach.  If the program is successful we may look at asking the teams to contribute to the cost of this program next season.

  1. Coach Development

For teams that train on Wednesday afternoon or evening we plan to have FDA coaches’ work with the coaches’ of these teams to develop both the coach’s knowledge and the player’s skills.
